How to text 100 people at once
At 100 people, a group text stops being an option — carrier limits and reply-all see to that. Here are the ways that actually work at that size, and what they cost.
What doesn’t work
- A group text. iMessage groups top out well below 100, and MMS groups lower still. Group text limits.
- Sending individually from your phone. A hundred identical texts from a personal line is exactly what carrier spam filters look for. Some will arrive; you won’t know which. Why.
What does work
| Option | Cost for 100 people | Recipients need |
|---|---|---|
| WhatsApp group or Broadcast list | Free | |
| GroupMe | Free | The app, or SMS |
| Text-Em-All monthly (51–100 contacts) | $39/mo | Just a phone |
| Airhorn Plus (employees only) | $84/mo | Just a phone |
| SMS marketing platform | ~$25–$50/mo depending on volume | Just a phone |
| Twilio or another API | A few dollars in fees, plus building it | Just a phone |
Third-party prices reflect each company’s published pricing as of October 2026 and change often — check their sites before deciding.
Choosing at 100 people
If everyone’s on an app already, use it. Free is free.
If it has to reach every phone, use an SMS service. For a general group, Text-Em-All is the cheaper option at this size. For employees, Airhorn costs more at 100 but includes opt-in tracking, STOP handling, groups by role or location, and one-on-one replies.
If you have a developer and much bigger volume, an API is cheapest per message — but you’re building consent, STOP handling, and a roster yourself.
Before you send to 100 people
- Make sure they agreed to it. Texting people who didn’t opt in isn’t only rude; it’s how numbers get blocked.
- Identify yourself in the first words of the message.
- Keep it under 160 characters so it arrives as one message.
- Split by group if the message only applies to some of them.
